Instructors

Joyce Anderson, CIH brings to the Rocky Mountain Education Center over 21 years of experience in industrial hygiene, health safety and OSHA related matters. Ms. Anderson was employed by the U.S. Department of Labor - OSHA as an inspector for more than 13 years and has been an instructor at the RMEC since 1994. Ms. Anderson holds a Bachelors degree in Environmental Health from Colorado State University and currently owns Compliance Specialties a safety, health, and training consulting firm.

Jim Arendas is the Environmental Safety and Health Director for the Construction Advancement Foundation. He brings over 26 years of experience to the RMEC. Mr. Arendas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety Management from Indiana State University. Shawn Armstrong has 21 years in the fire service including seven years as a Hazardous Materials Technician on the busiest Haz-Mat rig in the country. Mr. Armstrong has been with the Denver Fire Department since 1996 and an instructor for the RMEC since 2000. Shawn brings real world experiences to the classroom showing students problems that can be encountered in the workplace and how to solve those problems. He also holds an A.S. in Fire Science.

Chuck Beck joined Red Rocks Community College in September 2005 as a program coordinator and instructor for the Industrial Science and Energy Operations Program after a 32 year career in the malted beverage and petroleum product manufacturing industries. Chuck’s background covers a broad spectrum technical and organization development and management experience including process optimization engineering, energy conservation programs, environmental engineering, materials recycling, major capital program management, and plant operations improvement and operator training in lean manufacturing techniques. Chuck holds a BS degree in Chemical and Petroleum Refining Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.

Cynthia E. Braun, CSP, CET, CHMM has over 25 years experience in the fields of occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental compliance. Ms. Braun provides training and consulting for a wide range of industries across the United States. As the president and principal consultant for Braun Safety Associates, LLC in Littleton, Colorado, she oversees all project management, business development, and client maintenance. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Science / Geology.

Frank Burg PE, (MA), CSP has over 31 years of experience, 18 of which were at OSHA. He has been a compliance officer, the Voluntary Protection Program coordinator, safety director for one of the largest electrical construction contractors, and for the last five years has operated Accident Prevention Corporation, a safety and health consulting firm. Agnes Talamantez Carroll has been an instructor of business conversational Spanish with the Rocky Mountain Education Center since 2001. She is the President of Cultura Business Communications. Her career as a trainer gained national recognition in 1995 when First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton visited her classroom. She is a certified business and business Spanish trainer and her books have been published. She is listed in the national Who’s Who of Executive Professionals for 2004 and is also listed in the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Who’s Who. In 2004, she was awarded three community contribution awards from The Archdiocese of Denver, the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Adelante Mujer.

Robert W. Cos is Vice President and Chief Surveyor of Crane Operational Services, Inc., a crane training, inspection, certification, maintenance and accident investigation corp. He is accredited by the United States Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The States of California, Washington, and Maryland authorized to issue documents and/or papers of certification, on shore based cranes, cranes on barges, derricks, heavy lift cranes, overhead cranes and/or hoists and material handling devices which require certification under CFR Part 1919. Mr. Cos brings 35 years experience to Crane Operational Services.

Peter Cucuz brings more than 32 years of experience as a health and safety professional to the Education Center. Mr. Cucuz spent eight years with the Department of Labor - OSHA. Currently, Mr. Cucuz is the owner of a safety and health consulting firm. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Safety Management from Indiana State University.

Phil Currance has more than 22 years firefighter experience, six years experience with the Jefferson County Hazardous Materials Response Team, and 20 years Hazardous Materials Emergency Response training. Phil has been an Emergency Paramedic for the last 30 years. He currently serves with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as the deputy commander of the U.S. National Medical Response Team - Central Taskforce.

Dorys DeMiranda is the owner of OSHA Spanish Training Centre L.L.C. and is the OSHA pioneer to South America Countries. For over 6 years Dorys has been an authorized OSHA Trainer for Construction and General Industry and has taught over 1,000 business people from countries such as Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Peru and Ecuador. Dorys also translated the RMEC 10- and 30-Hour Construction Training Materials into Spanish. Ms. DeMiranda earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and has 15 years experience in the construction field.

David DuBose has over 35 years of experience in the construction industry having worked in a variety of positions, including superintendent, project manager and owner of his own utility company. He came to RMEC in 1992 bringing a wealth of practical experience and knowledge from his years working in the industry. Mr. DuBose has personally trained over 16,000 employees in the field of excavation safety and another 6,000 employees in both construction and general industry topics. Attendees of his courses represent a variety of industries, including State and Federal OSHA officers, public works personnel, laborers and their supervisors, as well as Safety and Health Professionals from all fields.

Todd Emmons has been in the gaming industry (casino industry) for 14 years. Nine years of his experience has been in a supervisory or manager capacity in areas such as security and table games. Todd is currently a casino (floor) manager for the Gold Rush Hotel and Casino in Cripple Creek Colorado. He also has been a blackjack dealer and trainer for multiple casinos.

David Glabe, PE is the president of DH Glabe & Associates, Inc., a construction engineering and training company. For more than 31 years, he has developed training programs and instructs regularly at the National OSHA Training Institute in Arlington Heights, IL. Mr. Glabe is a member of the ANSI A10.8 subcommittee for scaffolding and advises companies and government agencies on OSHA matters. David earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Valparaiso University and is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states.

Tom Gore has been an instructor at RMEC since 2005, delivering training for our Stormwater Courses. His background is in health & safety compliance and environmental management, with work experience on superfund sites, emergency response, project management and conducting audits. He is currently employed by Altitude Training Associates.

Donovan Grenz has more than 27 years of experience in training and has worked as a senior training instructor for the U.S. Department of Labor - OSHA. Mr. Grenz has professional experience in government services, having worked for the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Commerce, and U.S. Department of Labor - OSHA.

Monte Harnden is the founder and president of Center Line Resource. He has been employed by Marathon Pipeline Company for the past thirty-five years with eight years in construction, five years in cathodic protection, and twenty-two years as a field operator. He is well versed in pipelines systems, utility systems, and one-call systems. He performs technical locates for Marathon in very challenging, congested station yards and tank farms facilities. These locates include piping, power cables, tech cables, communication cables, and CP cables. He is a Certified Utility Locator and Instructor with Staking University and a Certified Damage Prevention Specialist and Instructor with ACES International. He is also a certified Subsurface Utility Locator and Instructor with Utility Training Academy.
