The North Dakota Safety Council, Consortium Partner of the Rocky Mountain Education Center, OSHA Region VIII Education Center, is pleased to offer the newly OSHA authorized course #5810 Hazards Recognition and Standards Training Course for the US On-Shore Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Industry. OSHA 5810 Pilot Sessions, August, 2012 Bismarck, North Dakota NBC News Affiliate Coverage
Red Rocks Community College’s Rocky Mountain Education Center (RMEC), an OSHA Training Institute and Education Center for Region VIII has convened leaders in the oil and gas exploration and production industry to develop a hazards based course for new and emerging front line supervisors working in the “oil patch.” The forty hour course consists of 18 modules aligned with the job tasks and the associated hazards from across the four primary functions of exploration and production; site preparation, drilling, production and well servicing. The course focuses on hazards that may be found in on-shore oil and gas work sites throughout the United States. RMEC’s director Joan W. Smith, is in North Dakota overseeing the delivery of the pilot sessions in Bismarck and Williston thanks to host partners North Dakota Safety Council and Missouri Basin Well Services during the month of August. Joan was interviewed by the NBC affiliate in Bismarck. The Bakken Formation in North Dakota is rivaling Texas as the fastest growing region for domestic oil and gas production. Rocky Mountain Education Center has been given permission by the OSHA Directorate of Training and Education to pilot the course as the first course of the proposed OSHA Outreach Program for Oil and Gas Exploration and Production. Efforts are continuing to develop additional courses that also include a leadership course for health and safety professionals employed in the oil and gas industry and a train-the-trainer course to prepare instructors with oil and gas industry experience to conduct OSHA authorized training for oil and gas workers as outreach trainers for the Rocky Mountain Education Center and the other authorized OSHA Training Institutes and Education Centers across the United States.
