Specialist Certificate Program
The Rocky Mountain Education Center offers its clientele the opportunity to receive a Specialist Certificate in five specific areas. The areas available for a certificate are Environmental, Occupational safety and Health in Construction and Occupational Safety and Health in General Industry and Oil & Gas and Stormwater Management.
Oil & Gas emphasis pathway to prepare OSHA Authorized 501 General Industry Trainers
• OSHA 501 - OSHA General Industry
• Course with Oil & Gas Emphasis
• OSHA 511 - Standards Course with Oil & Gas Emphasis
• OGOP 115 - Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Employee Awareness
• OSHA 2225 - Respiratory Protection
• RMEC 318 - Supervisor Safety Course
• RMEC 455 - Electrical Safety Seminar or OSHA 3095- Electrical Standards
• OSHA 7845 - Record Keeping
Choose 2 of the following Electives:
o OSHA 2264 - Permit-Required Confined Space Entry
o OSHA 3010 - Excavation, Trenching and Soil Mechanics
o OSHA 3110 - Fall Arrest Systems
o OSHA 521 - OSHA Guide to Industrial Hygiene
o OSHA 7505 - Introduction to Accident Investigation
o RMEC 200 - 49 CFR DOT Regulations
o RMEC 313 - 40-Hour HAZWOPER

Certificate Applicants seeking to earn or renew OSHA Authorization to train the 10-hour and 30-hour General Industry courses must complete the following courses:
OSHA 501 - Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry Oil & Gas Emphasis
• Course completers will receive 10-hour and 30-hour training materials with oil and gas emphasis.

Pathway 1: New Trainer Prerequisites
OSHA 511- Standards Course with Oil & Gas Emphasis and five years of oil and gas safety experience. A college degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation may be substituted for 2 years of professional experience.
Pathway 2: Current OSHA Authorized 501 Trainer Prerequisites
OSHA 511 - Standards Course with Oil & Gas Emphasis and five years of oil and gas safety experience to include applying safety standards. A college degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation may be substituted for 2 years of professional experience.
OSHA 503 - Refresher Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry with Oil & Gas Industry Emphasis – Course completers will have the option to purchase 10 and 30 hour training materials with oil and gas emphasis
Oil and Gas emphasis courses will be taught by OSHA authorized general industry trainers with a minimum of 5 years experience working in the oil and gas industry with responsibilities in applying safety standards.
